¡¡¡¡Jiading Bamboo Carving began with Qianlong and Wanli Time (1567-1619 A.D.) of the Qing Dynasty. At that time two genres of bamboo carving had formed: Jinling Genre and Jiading Genre, the latter of which was more flourishing. The initiator of Jiading Genre was Zhu Songling, a man good at poem, painting and calligraphy. He was brave in innovation, inferior to nobody. His son Zhu Xiaosong and his grandson Zhu Sansong inherited his career. A host of great artists were subsequently produced, such as Qin Yijue, Shen Dasheng, Hou Xiaoceng in the Ming Dynasty and Feng Yinggu, Shi Dajing, Zhang Xuehai in the Qing Dynasty.
¡¡¡¡The major feature and traditional skill of Jiading Bamboo Carving is ¡°To use knife instead of brush and carve the bamboo in the same way as calligraphy¡±. Its artistry of wielding the knife developed a school of its own, different from that of other areas.
